Objective of the project:

Alternative therapy has been extensively used throughout time in the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Using the potential effects of aromatic and medicinal plants in human diet, can exert not only long-range of actions which due to their contents in macro and micro-nutrients, but also into their chemical compounds acting as therapeutic agent.

Medicinal plants are able to target the gut microbiota as first contact system and enhance the affective behavior, maybe one of treatments strategies that has no sides effects. Modulating the microbiota by natural substances with medicinal plant maybe are able to enhance affective and cognitive behavior by controlling the neurotransmitters/precursor and cytokines release during the affective behavior related to inflammation. In this proposed study we will use a medicinal plant that we already showed that has a potential anti-depressant impact by decreasing either the inflammation, neuroinflammation and oxidative stress.

In this project we will investigate a new aspect of natural treatments/ diet based on the use of endemic plant of Maamora forest -Morocco, which is Thymelaea lythroides, this plant is recognized by its beneficials vertue in counterbalancing the inflammatory effects, also alleviating the behavioral disorders by investigating its role in dysfunctional gut microbiota-immune-brain axis.

Scientific, environmental, economic impact:

  • At scientific, research and development aspects:
  • Getting multidisciplinary units and teams (make up of PhD and MD), in the aim to make new skills accessible to national authorities responsible for the health policies of our country.
  • Setting up a product analysis laboratory at national and international levels
  • Providing specialized training and research for PhD students to apply concepts and methods from basic behavioral science to the study of clinical problems linked to gut-brain axis via understanding the pathological patwhays of inflammation.
  • Quality of the proposed measures to communicate the action activities to different target audiences.
  • Making the scientific data and results more available for the pharmaceutical community to facilitate targeting new drugs for the neuroimmune gut brain disorder also to foster the Scientific understanding of the health impacts of nutritional on the exacerbation of pathology.
  • Participations to the congress have been scheduled on the basis of ideal timing in regard to the expected work advances and differential impact on the targeted scientific audience. Around halfway, ideal meetings would be the 2020 open days of the SIPAM and FENS 2021. Our results will be presented at many more meetings as we agreed that all members of the project will present the work whenever they attend a meeting. Oral presentations and posters (both whenever possible) will be proposed at the meetings.
  • For each type of communication evoked here and below (presentation, video, and website), reference to the funding within ANPAMA and CNRST framework.
  • At economical levels

–     To meet the needs of socioeconomically demand of the employment market especially those involved in an insufficient professional’s health care and agricultural and reduce the burden and the needs of families living in forest by:

–     Securing the supply of raw materials; essential for the sustainability of the activity through :

–     improve quality and yield

–     Reinforcing the capacity building of leaders, managers and trainers working in cooperative structures, to answer to particular needs

–     Identify major challenges specific to cooperatives in market-oriented agricultural development at least at national level.

–     Implication of industrials both at pharmaceutical and agricultural levels to get as close as possible to their requirements by:

–     Certification of organic crops notably of Thymelae lythroides

–     Production of food in the form of capsules or capsules based on Thymelae lythroides which have therapeutic functions for the treatment of diseases like neuropsychaitric disorders, such as depression.
