Regional PHD School base on Innovative HydroPlatform in Water and Environment to Enhance Maghreb Inter-Research Centres
Presentation
To develop new and innovative course program and methodologies for the implementation of a new regional PhD school in the existing Maghreb research centres to deal with water management and environmental protection. This School will be based on an innovative hydroplatform using open source modelling software on the workstation that leads to the implementation of Decision Support System (DSS) in integrated water management (GIS, climate and hydrological modelling) for the decision makers In Maghreb countries. The project is designed to create new PhD course school, improve and modernize existing Curricula and establish an international recognition of the PhD degree at the 3 Maghreb countries and EU.
Outputs and Outcomes:
- Outcome 1: Identified existing Post graduate courses linked to GIS and modelling software in teaching and training in the Maghreb region
Activities:
• Assessment of existing post graduate courses for teaching and training in Water Resources and Environmental Sciences in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia;
• Assessment of the needs in post graduate courses and trainings on open GIS and modelling software based on the new Maghreb water strategies;
• Elaboration of the innovative course program;
• Approval of the new program by partner University authorities;
• International recognition of the PhD degree.
- Outcome 2: Establishment of a regional PhD School based on HydroPlatform using open GIS and modeling software librairies for partner countries
Activities:
• Creation and establishment of the HydroPlatform at the regional and national Water Centres of Maghreb;
• Training of teachers on open source modeling (new teaching methods, new approach towards research methods in water management): Staff mobilities South-North, North-South and South-South;
• Upgrading teaching laboratories in partner universities;
• Data base creation and library upgrading on open source modeling (platform, virtual centre, website).
- Outcome 3: Development of the advanced PhD courses and implementation for post-graduate Maghreb students in partner countries
Activities:
• Development of the advanced courses through mobilities S-N;
• Implementation of the courses on open source modeling for students;
• Guidelines/recommendations for the use of HydroPlatfom for teachers, students and engineers;
• Dissemination/exploitation and feedback from partner universities, public and private water companies and EU partners.
